The Cambodian government plans to suspend online gambling operations in all casinos across the country beginning in October 2026. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha announced the measure following a directive from Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The decision aims to strengthen oversight of online gambling and associated financial transactions. Authorities noted that a high volume of transactions within this sector makes tracking money flows and identifying illicit funds difficult.
The suspension period will be utilized to improve legislation, digital infrastructure, and the training of specialists who will monitor online gambling. The duration of these restrictions remains undetermined, and the potential resumption of operations will depend on the effectiveness of new monitoring mechanisms.
Casino operators have received warnings regarding the necessity of complying with government requirements. Violations will carry severe penalties, up to and including the revocation of licenses.
This decision comes amid Cambodia's broader efforts to combat cyber fraud and money laundering. Between July 2025 and July 2026, authorities inspected 195 licensed casinos, revoked the licenses of 20 establishments, and suspended operations at another 29 facilities due to suspected links with cyber fraud schemes.
