Tournament operator ESL has introduced updates to the ESL Pro Tour regulations for Dota 2, which will impact upcoming tournaments including DreamLeague and the Esports World Cup.
Under the revised rules, standalone regional qualifiers for North American teams have been removed. Affected rosters are now permitted to select an alternate region for their qualification path, excluding Western Europe and South America. Organizers noted that the available slot count and the general qualification format utilizing these participating teams will remain unchanged.
Additionally, ESL has granted official permission for esports clubs to utilize alternative names and branding when their primary sponsor, such as gambling enterprises, faces restrictions from local legislation or broadcast platform regulations. Any alternative jersey and logo variants must exhibit substantial differences from the original designs.
Organizers specified that every instance of an alternative brand application remains subject to mandatory approval by ESL administration.
